1921


Perry H. Broughton started his company utilizing horses, dump wagons, slips, and elevating loaders.

Broughton continued to haul coal and shale around springfield keeping busy doing work around lake springfield and working in the switchyards at pillsbury mills.

Sold Last Team of horses and began utilizing trucks full time.

1941


P.H.’s sons Bill and Bob are called to service in WWII, Bob in the Marine Corps. Bill In the army air corps.

1946


With the help of Bobs GI bill, the company added a P&H Crane for loading materials. The company also bought two Airborne bulldozers, a front shovel, and a crawler end loader.

Leased a Shale pile North of Sangamo Avenue. With each load sold a $1 was paid to Peabody Coal.

1951


Donald called to serve in Korean War running heavy equipment including a D8 Dozer and Browning Truck Crane. During his time in the military he was exposed to a Hot Mix Asphalt plant.

The company was moved to present location of 905 N. Lincoln. The property was purchased from Panther Creek Mine co. more well known as the West End Mine.

Bought first Hot Mix Plant a Barber Greene BG 840B which was traded shortly after for an BG 815 continuous flow plant.

Perry H. Broughton passes away but his wife Leora and three sons continue the business.

Started Sangamon Valley Sand and Gravel Co.

Separated Sangamon Valley Sand and Gravel, and United Transit Concrete from P. H. Broughton & Sons Inc. as three stand alone companies.

Very active in City, State, and County road projects. Commercial parking lots and oil and chip projects also compliment the scope of work performed.
